Class A (MELT) Tractor-Trailer Training

The Ministry of Transportation has introduced Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) that requires students to successfully complete the mandatory program prior to attending their Class A road test.

·         116 hours of training over 5 weeks.

·         37 Hours: In–Class Training

·         17 Hours: In-yard training including:

1. Inspection
2. Coupling & Uncoupling 
3. Backing

·         12 Hours  Air Brake Course

·         50 Hours: One-on-One, on-road, and off-road driving

• Class G Ontario License
• MTO Class A Written (Drive Test Centre)

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent

                                            OR

• At least 18 years of age and pass the Wonderlic SLE (passing score of 12)

• a car or light truck covered by a Class G licence
• heavy trucks covered by the Class D truck licence
• any vehicle covered under a restricted Class A truck licence
